 How conscious are you right now?

It seems like a simple question, but think about it.

Let me give you an example.

Take a deep breath in and fill your lungs.

As you breathe out, think or say... “Relax.”

How often do you breathe without thinking about it?

Now that you are are thinking about it, can you just let go, and breathe automatically again?

The fact is we go in and out of our conscious state every day. We simply can’t concentrate on everything. Instead, our brain focuses us on what seems most important to us at the moment. It’s not that we stop doing everything else--it’s just that it’s easier to do some things automatically.

With time, a behavior can become as easy as breathing. As automatic as breathing... as persistent...  and even necessary.

We can get so wrapped up in ourselves we are too distracted to pay attention to the world around us.

We forget that every day we are living in a story. Our perceptions, our impressions, our feelings, yes, even our judgments, come together to create our day to day experience.

The life we have lived tells us what the future will be like. We are using the past to navigate the present. So much of our thinking right now, and our assumptions about the future, are actually rooted in our own imagination instead of what is actually happening to us in the moment.

Maybe you smoke. Maybe you eat too much... or not enough. Maybe you get into arguments you didn’t intend to. Maybe you don’t know what you want to do with your life. Maybe you don’t feel like doing anything at all. Maybe you just can’t find peace.

    What is hypnosis?

    Hypnosis is more than a system of techniques. It is a different way of thinking that is based on a natural yet altered state. We experience this state every day when we wake up and again as we go to sleep. This state allows us to unlock internal mechanisms that connect us with the unconscious aspects of our mind.

    To put it in more scientific terms, hypnosis has been shown in both studies and personal testimonials to transform negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; to completely relieve pain and discomfort; and even to cause physical changes in the body.

    Science can tell you what hypnosis looks like in the brain and how effective it is in a narrow context. But nobody knows exactly what is really going on yet. What we do know is that the brain is only one part of the nervous system. The conscious mind is only one part of the brain. Through the conscious, and into the unconscious by way of hypnosis, we have the potential to access any part of the body by way of its natural communication systems. By going from the regular waking consciousness into the state of hypnosis, we can not only access these other parts, but work with them to make positive, lasting changes.

    What should I do before a hypnosis session?

    You don’t have to bring anything but an open mind.

    However, consider taking some time to write a list of everything in your life that you would like to change. Even things it would seem that you cannot control have underlying thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that do have the potential for change.

    What should I expect from hypnosis?

    Hypnosis and related techniques are designed to promote an altered yet natural state of mind. This state allows my clients to make positive, lasting changes to their lives.

    My objective is to show you how your mind is actually designed to help itself if you just let it. For the most part, you can just sit back and relax!

    You may be provided with materials or suggested practices to help reinforce the work we have done in our session.

    How fast does hypnosis work?

    The initation of a hypnotic state can occur instantly. It is not unusual to see results from a single session, but results vary depending on the client and the issue we are addressing. Protocols are usually three to six sessions depending on the client's needs.

    I find it best to set expectations aside and let my client work at their own natural pace. I urge you to work at your own speed and focus on lasting change.

    What is a session like?

    At the beginning of your session we explore your insights about what brought you in.

    There's no need to tell a long, detailed story. Once you are in touch with your thoughts and feelings we can get to the work at hand. Even a simple talk will utilize various modalities to help get you to the root of the issue at hand so you can begin the transformation process.

    I will suggest what work is to be done depending on your needs. This may or may not include assisting you into the hypnotic state through relaxation and visualization techniques.

    How long does it take?

    A typical session will range from 45 minutes to 2 hours. It is about as long as a movie. In some cases I may take extra time for your session if I have it. You will be warned in advance if I believe you would benefit from an even longer session.

    Will I be hypnotized?

    The methods I use are customized to your own unique goals. A session may consist of a series of faster, more conscious techniques, a longer hypnotic induction, or both. Each client requires something different depending on their circumstances.

    Technically, a cook doesn't eat for you. A personal trainer doesn't do your exercises for you. Doctors give you the best chance to heal but they can't heal for you. And as a hypnotherapist, I don't so much hypnotize you as guide you into the state of hypnosis.

    When we begin, it may seem like I am doing everything. With practice you will discover you are transforming yourself. I just show you how to get there.

    How many sessions do I need?

    When I offer a specific protocol such as smoking cessation or life mastery, the typical range is from 3 to 6 sessions. That is because we have a very specific goal and we know what the results will be.

    A 10 session package is probably the largest package I am willing to consider providing. This is for clients who, like myself, are fully dedicated to fully living their most authentic life.

    Can I do hypnosis online/remotely?

    Hypnosis can be done in my office or remotely. For remote sessions, I prefer a clear video and sound connection in order to ensure the most effective experience.

    Does hypnosis work for medical and psychiatric conditions?

    A prescription may be required for specific medical and psychiatric conditions, especially if you are already being treated by a health or mental health care provider. If you are unsure please talk with your health care provider.

    Your holistic well being is also part of the healing process. You can always contact me in order to work on yourself. Promoting peace and calm is a healthy way to experience hypnosis without a needing a prescription.
